As we flew closer to Lanzarote, the sky was completely overcast. This is extremely unusual for
this part of the world, but not unknown. Our first glimpse of the island was not the long distance
sunlit shot that I had in my mind, but rather a little glimpse through a hole in the clouds as the plane
banked around in a short holding pattern awaiting landing clearance, just above the cloud layer.
