1936 Winter Olympic Stadium 1936 Winter Olympic Stadium

Garmisch-Partenkirchen was the site of the Nazi-hosted 1936 Winter Olympics.
The architecture, and particularly the artwork in the stadium, still stand in
mute testament to the Nazi ideas of their perceived racial superiority. However,
Germany only won 3 gold and 3 silver medals. Norway won 7 gold, 5 silver and
3 bronze medals. In my mind, that alone should have given Hitler a bit of pause.
But, apparently, he wasn't paying attention to the entire picture, or just wasn't
interested...again. 9 years later he would personally pay for that oversight.

Book Note: One of the most interesting books I have read about what happened in
Germany between its unification in 1871 and the arrival of the Nazis in power in 1933
is The Coming of the Third Reich, by Richard J. Evans.
