Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is on the very southern end of Lanzarote. It is
bracketed by the fantastic beaches of Papagayo to the east,
and a volcano, Mt. Roja, to the west. To the north is desert.
And lava. Lots of lava in the form of broken pieces of rock
that covers many square miles.

In the last few years, development has overtaken what was once
a tiny fishing village. Playa Blanca has been urbanized. But, it has
managed (barely) to retain its reason to visit - sun, sand, clear
clean blue Atlantic water, and great food. It is warm (75F,24C) year
round. In July it is windy as hell as Lanzarote sits slightly north
of the Tropic of Cancer, about 60 miles off the coast of Morocco,
right in the path of the Atlantic trade winds. Most of the sand on
the island was delivered via air from the Sahara.

These shots are all from various places in and around Playa Blanca.

Notes:

Favorite dinner spot: Snoopy's - say hallo to Pascual Moya
the proprietor. Not only is the food outstanding, but he made these
travellers feel right at home. Again.
Favorite karaoke night spot: Legends - Graham, I'll stop singing
when you stop playing music...
Favorite Canarian cocktail: Canarian Honey Rum over ice
Favorite Lanzarote wine: El Grifo Dulce (sweet) over ice
Favorite food: Fish caught that morning, steak, or a seafood pizza
at Snoopy's
